It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

Lovely quaint bed and breakfast style accommodation. Our hosts were extremely accommodating and super friendly, they made us feel as if we were part of the family as soon as we arrived. We were served a hearty filling breakfast. The kind of place you'd wish you would have booked for a few more nights. Will definitely return if we're ever in the area again.
It is a lovely albergue, with character and charm. Well situated near the pilgrim office and Express Bouricot. The dorm I slept in was spacious and had single beds - much appreciated. The dinner was delicious, and the multi-national guests were able to all communicate with the assistance of the hospitaleros.
The hostelier was very friendly & welcoming on arrival. I was made to feel comfortable even though I was nervous about starting the Camino Frances the next day. Also, one of my Camino family members ended up being in that same room that night & now I've got a brother for life 💖
Excellent location near the Camino Pilgrim office. The friendly owner went above and beyond to help with some logistical issues that I was experiencing. The room was clean, comfortable, and had the most amazing view of any stay on my Camino trip! Highly recommend!
great little hotel, right in the old town and really nice decor. loved the provided breakfast in the communal kitchen and the view of the Pyrenees from the terrace
Marc gave us fantastic recommendations of places to go before and after our stay
Just great. Awesome albergue, the energy was very pleasant. It’s very tastefully equipped and clean. It has a nice terace and also a meditation room which is uncommon. The breakfast was tasty and the host is very kind and helpful.
Amazing experience. The hotel has beautiful grounds and mountain views. Breakfast was exceptional - homemade yogurt, homemade preserves, meat, eggs, cheese, fresh pastries and more. Owners were extremely welcoming and helpful.
One of the best hostels/albergues I've ever staid in. The hosts, Pascal and Joe are simply wonderful people who will do everything they can to make your stay enjoyable. Great hosts, great food, great accommodations.
it was nearly at “ground zero” - a <10 minute walk to the “Camino de Santiago” Pilgrims’ Office. we also had the opportunity to have breakfast before departure - but we were in a hurry to start our journey.

This was a perfect place to stay as we prepared to begin the Camino Frances. Our room had a small kitchen which helped with meals and the location was perfect.
