It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey.
Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience!

There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances.
Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.

Quiet, comfortable, spotless and a great stay. The room is amazing. Spacious bathroom. Big comfy bed. Has everything you need and more. Kitchen and large lounge area with balcony area overlooking the valley below. Magnificent views. walking distance to all tourist attractions, cafes and restaurants. Some incredible traditional French cuisine within 10 minutes. Accommodation on the Camino.
Absolutely pleasure to stay there
The host accommodated our request to leave our bags there prior to the check in time. This was a big relief to us as we did not have to lug our bags around. The room was clean and spacious with spectacular views. The host, Pancho was very helpful in every way. We had left our phone charger behind in the previous hotel so he gave us an adapter to help.
The bunk beds were nice and sturdy. I’ve been on the top bunk in several albergues since then, and these were the best so far. The breakfast included is more substantial than what many other alburgues offer. The host loves to tease guests so don’t take him seriously if he says you can’t have something because you didn’t ask in French. :)
Great Albuergue for the beginning of the Camino. The owner was friendly and accomodating, and wished that we take our own "Camino" without feeling like he we have to keep up with others.
This was my first night in an Albergue, so I recommend a sleeping bag, facemask and earplugs for anyone who is unfamiliar.
Everything. Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is not really the kind of place where we would extend our stay. However, Marc is an exceptional host and the property is truly lovely. Our room, the use of a kitchen, the wonderful terrace at the rear kept us there for many days more than we had intended.
The volunteer Hospitelaro from Finland was very friendly & accommodating. She held a brief ceremony on the day of our departure on the Camino de Santiago Frances. The breakfast & accommodations were outstanding. The porch balcony has a stunning view of the Pyrenees.
Pascal and Joe were the best hosts one could hope to have for one's first day on the Camino. I can't say enough good things about them and about their albergue. I rank their albergue as one of the most special memories of my Camino.
Excellent location to start the Camino Frances. Grocery store and many restaurants within walking distance. Our host was amazing and did everything to make our stay perfect. Would definitely stay here again.
Perfect suite to start the Camino from or just enjoy Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Ideal location. Nice little garden sitting area. Well supplied kitchen. Great breakfast to start your walk.
Good location and a good price if you’re wanting a last night of peace before beginning on the Camino Francés. It was very quiet when we were there and we slept beautifully.
Amazing location I side the old city walls. Accommodation was finished to a very high standard and very comfortable. A beautiful hotel and a great stay. Highly recommended!
Hotel receptionist was very welcoming and friendly.
Lovely position and great sitting on the balcony overlooking the mountains.
Good breakfast, very relaxed
