It was a very pretty village/ Town in the mountains. Suitable for walkers with lovely cafe's and restaurants and useful supply base before starting the camino. Local people were very friendly and quirky as well. It is full of character and history.

SJPDP is the traditional starting point for el Camino de Santiago's French route. You can feel all the positive energy and excitement from the Peregrinos at portas of their journey. Although the first stage from SJPDP, crossing the Pyrenees to Spain, is challenging the journey and the satisfaction of completing it is multiple times more rewarding and will remain as a memorable experience! There is surely more to do and see in Saint Jean-Pied-de-Port than we had time for. The Hotel Ramuntcho was perfect in every way. We were in town only for one night before beginning the Camino, and we would have been delighted to stay longer had time allowed.AAnonymous - 8.0Scored 8.0

We went to St Jean because it is the starting point of the French Camino. It is a charming place, lots of good places to stay and eat - though the prices in a cafe we stopped at are a lot higher than in nearby Spain! 5 Euros for a glass of wine compared with 1.5 Euros in Spain!

It’s beautiful little town in a beautiful setting. Well, we ate one of the restaurants where we could sit outside. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten the name of the restaurant. The food was good. The restaurant was quite busy. I gave the cashier €50 and was short changed €20. 🤨

Beautiful town at the start of the Camino frances. Not good for dairy and gluten allergy though and not every restaurant and bar proprietor is friendly. Hardly anything provided in any language other than french. Looking forward to crossing into Spain.KatarinaFinland

This was a big relief to us as we did not have to lug our bags around. The room was clean and spacious with spectacular views. The host, Pancho was very helpful in every way. We had left our phone charger behind in the previous hotel so he gave us an adapter to help.

I’ve been on the top bunk in several albergues since then, and these were the best so far. The breakfast included is more substantial than what many other alburgues offer. The host loves to tease guests so don’t take him seriously if he says you can’t have something because you didn’t ask in French. :)

This was my first night in an Albergue, so I recommend a sleeping bag, facemask and earplugs for anyone who is unfamiliar.
