Caminha, a fortified border town located at the mouth of the river Minho, where several battles were fought between Portugal and Spain, now has much more friendly relations with its neighbor , it is a nice place to stay a few days to discover the area, unfortunately the ferry that connects the two banks of the river, is out of service.

I have been taking holidays in Caminha for over 30 years so it is one of my favourite spots. The town is small and everything is in walking distance, packed with enough restaurant choices to keep you satisfied and very well fed. Around it there's plenty interesting things to see and places to visit, also more restaurants with more excellent food to enjoy. The proximity with Spain is also a bonus.

Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition.
Great little town with a lots of culture and tradition. As a pilgrim, there were not so many places to stay, but I met some lovely people there. I loved walking along the river Minho, beautiful landscape, fascinating architecture. It's a quiet town that is located on the riverbank of Rio Minho and you can cross the river by ferry to Spain.

CAMINHA is a very attractive little town especially the old centre which has a lovely bustling square !
Many decent reasonably priced restaurants.
There are lovely clean beaches & super views across the River Minho to Spain !
Ideally located for walking on the beautiful unspoilt Serra da Arga or along the coastline.
Easy to nip across to Spain on the cheap ferry.
Good train service to other interesting places.
In a convenient location just 2 minutes walk from the grocery store and a place to sit but the water, Ola Vida is an ideal place to stay when you’re on the Camino. It is a bit passed where the maps tell you your final destination is so it’s extra walking, but it’s perfectly situated just 2 min walk from the Taxi Mar to cross into Spain. We were even lucky to be placed in a room with a private bathroom complete with shower, sink, and toilet.
We stayed at Patricia's gorgeous guesthouse while waking the Camino Portugues. She welcomed us with a hug, and our jaws dropped when we saw the beautiful bedroom and the spacious patio with a view over the Minho River to Spain!
Kitchen was well outfitted and the restaurant down the block was grand.
The next day Patricia gave us a lift back to Caminha ... she is a few km north of the boat we needed to take to cross to Spain.
Magnificent views over the river Mino and Spain. From the room you could see the sun set behind the hill. The rooms are like individual bungalows with panoramic windows floor to ceiling. Very quiet place ideal for good sleep and relaxation. As the location of the hotel is high up the hill the air is very clean. Easy walk down to the village of Seixas.
Really nice location, beautiful garden with oranges, lemons etc. The in house dinners and breakfasts were really, really good. The cook really knew the food very well. Also, we didn't finish our wine bottle, so without asking she placed the bottle under vacuum and the second evening she brought out that bottle without asking, saving us 25 Euro
The location was perfect, right next to the river with the old water mill still running. The room was great and the bathroom was beautiful. Plenty of garden space to relax in The staff were super friendly and made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Look forward to staying again in the future!
Great location, on the Camino, close to bars and restaurants. Lovely spacious apartment, clean and very light with great views. Would recommend this property, lovely friendly staff/owner. we were very happy to stay here and would book here again if ever we return to Caminha which is a lovely town.
Perfect host- positive, very professional and helpful. You have salt bath for tired feet, cooking supplies like soy sauce and garlic, even through I was afraid of staying in 20-bed room, it's designed in a way that gives you privacy, bathroom is sparkly clean- I recommend this place for everyone!!
So many extra touches that made for a comfortable, welcoming and magical space. Lots of attention to cleaning, many areas to sit and relax inside and outside. Laundry and kitchen facilities were excellent, and great selection of food to use for breakfast by donation.
Well-preserved outdoor space, comfortable and spacious place, great breakfast and staff.
In terms of location, it is also super close to many lovely places to visit.
Outdoor and indoor swimming pools are also very good, especially for families with kids!
The staff Marcelo Silva, Lara Ferreira, Maria Dantas, Bruna Fernandes were all very polite and accommodating. We had invited our friends over for dinner at the hotel and they also loved the food. The spa facilities are ideal to use in overcast weather.
Beautiful historical hotel and well, it’s a palace so pretty swanky. I felt like a princess as I was walking the Camino and loved the pampering after a long days walk. Fabulous and spacious suite with a view of the river. Wonderfully prepared breakfast!
Beauty and spacious. Also, there was a need to use the bathroom drying racks and the property owner made sure that the racks where turned on through the night. Furthermore, thoughtful appointments where in the kitchen as a welcome treat.
We had a wonderful stay. The apartment was spacious and well-equipped. The breakfast was very excellent with a variety of different foods and drinks. We also spent some time in the pool which was well-sized for the number of guests.
Absolutely recommended apartment in Caminha, very nice spot in the city center, few steps from the main square, two separated bedrooms with two bathrooms, nice kitchen and living room and wine prepared by the owner. Excellent.
Location. Laundry service was great after walking in the rain for 8 hours. It was one less thing to take care of. Greatly appreciated. They also had newspapers for drying shoes. Good kitchen facility.
Outstanding! The staff went above and beyond, the spa and sauna magnificent, restaurant delicious, room incredibly comfortable, and right off the Camino! The hotel is situated in a lovely square too.
Amazing hosts, they went a extra mile to help me and my friends about transportation and tips for our stay in Caminha. Great location and outdoor space, wish we had more time to enjoy the place.
The apartment is in a great location with fantastic views over the river. There is a nice outdoor terrace. The apartment is very spacious and bright in the afternoon. Very comfortable.
We were just passing through and didn't have time to visit the spa but we hope to return. It was spacious, great location, beautiful room, great shower, amazing breakfast buffet.
